Associate Attorney
About Alexander
Alex was born and raised in North Dakota, but headed west about as soon as he could. He received a culinary education before making his way up to Portland. For a few years, Alex paid his dues learning the ropes of the restaurant business, but when an opportunity to learn professional distilling arose, he decided to change career directions. Alex continued distilling—and winning awards for his rum—while pursuing a degree in political science from Portland State University. Fascinated by the regulatory scheme involved in regulating craft beer and distilled spirits, Alex decided to switch careers again, and obtained a JD from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2011.
Alex lives in Northeast Portland with his wife and their two children. He has served for over five years on the Hollywood Farmer’s Market board of directors, including two years as the chair of the board, and he enjoys picking up the week’s produce and chatting with vendors and farmers there on Saturday mornings. He is also an avid Timbers fan and has held season tickets since the USL days. When not in the office, Alex enjoys taking his family on outdoor adventures and hunting Oregon big game.
Experience and Focus
Alex has over ten years of experience practicing law, and provides a full range of legal services to his clients as their on-call general counsel, providing comprehensive business advice from start-up to winding down. He also has extensive experience representing clients in matters concerning real property, litigation, cannabis regulation, alcoholic beverage regulation, and hospitality. Alex takes great pride in his ability to counsel clients to craft solutions to their legal matters that are both practical and creative, and assisting clients in managing complex projects to successful completion.
Prior to joining Coheare, Alex worked at a law firm specializing in mortgage related litigation and real property law, ran his own law firm assisting small businesses, and worked as an associate general counsel of one of Oregon’s largest craft breweries, where he was also the administrator of the company’s non-profit charitable foundation.
