About Robert
Mr. Swider is a member of Coheare Law Group LLC. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Oregon in 1982. He holds a JD from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College and received his BA from Seton Hall University in 1975. He became a member of the bar of the US District Court Oregon in 1983, was admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 1995 and was admitted to the United States Supreme Court bar in 1996. He has been admitted Pro hac vice for cases in US District Courts in California and Texas and in the State of Washington.
He and his wife Cathy have one adult daughter who also lives in Portland, Oregon. He is an avid amateur photographer and when not in the office he may be found in his kayak, outdoors or volunteering in the community. He is dedicated Blazer season ticket holder.
His community service activities include volunteering for the Oregon Game Project Challenge and the Oregon Robotics Tournament and Outreach Program (ORTOP) for whom he has volunteered in various capacities. These included technical and teamwork judging at Local and State Tournaments, Head core Values Judge for the State of Oregon for FIRST Lego League (FLL) and Judge Advisor for FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). He has been a judge at the FIRST World Championships for both the FLL and FTC programs and has been the Judge Advisor for the FIRST FTC Western Regional Championships.
He has volunteered for Oregon State Bar Committees including the Computer Law Section, the Computer and Internet Law Section, the Technology Law Section and the Business Litigation Section. He has written and spoken extensively on legal issues related to computer and internet law, technology issues, software and other areas concerning intellectual property and litigation.
Experience and Focus
Mr. Swider has been a practicing attorney for over 40 years. During which time he has been involved in all aspects of state and federal court civil litigation concerning intellectual property, copyright law, trademark law, computer and internet law, unfair trade practices, electronic commerce, general business, complex litigation and personal injuries. He is ultimately responsible for the supervision and training of the firm’s associates.
Mr. Swider has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale and Hubble, which is a testament to the fact that his peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence. Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings reflect a combination of achieving a Very High General Ethical Standards rating and a Very High Legal Ability rating.
Mr. Swider represents individuals and businesses primarily in matters involving business issues, intellectual property, real property, and litigation matters which he finds interesting. In addition to advising clients, he is the head of the firm’s litigation department.
